5 Ingredients Nigerian Women Should Look for in Skin Care Products
Are a Nigerian woman? Are you confused about what ingredient to look for in skin care products? You are on the right page. Keep reading to make the perfect body cream choice without falling victim to deceitful adverts.
When it comes to advertising beauty products, there are traps set by sugarcoated copies written to promote moisturizers, lotions, body cream, etc.
Here’s the sad part:
Many Nigerian women fall into those traps. Honestly, it’s not their fault.
You won’t understand how desperate people battling with skin conditions are until you find yourself in their position.
Nevertheless, I’m not going to bore you with irrelevant chit chat. So, what are the ingredients to look for in skin care products before buying them? Let’s find out.
Ingredients to Look for in Skin Care Products
Actually, you don’t have to be a genius or have a degree in cosmetology before you can know what beauty ingredient is good or bad for your skin.
If you only find yourselves buying products that don’t work and need to get enlightened, these are the skin care ingredients to look for in moisturizers, lotions, body cream, etc.
1. Retinoid
This acne-battling ingredient is one of my favourites. Whether you are buying a moisturizer or lotion, retinoid must be included in your skin care product especially if you have acne-prone skin.
Apart from treating acne, it is an anti-aging skin care ingredient. It reduces wrinkles, fine lines, and hydrates the skin.
Do you know the best part?
Retinoid is a derivative of vitamin A and is very safe for your body care.
You can find it in many moisturizers like Neutrogena Ageless Intensive Deep Wrinkle Night Moisturizer, Olay Regenerist Retinol 24-Night Moisturizer, Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Moisturizer, Cera Ve Resurfacing Retinol Serum, etc.
2. Salicylic acid
What makes Salicylic acid an ingredient to look for skin care products?
This ingredient works great to remove dead skin cells. You see, the dullness of your skin is mostly caused by dead cells.
Salicylic acid helps to remove the old skin cells, rejuvenating your skin by revealing younger-looking skin.
Also, products that contain salicylic acid are good in treating acne-prone skin.
Some skin care products that contain salicylic are; the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, Cera Ve SA Cream for Rough and Bumpy Skin, Oriflame Love Nature Purifying Toner, Clinique Clarifying Lotion, etc.
3. Benzoyl peroxide
Benzoyl peroxide is another ingredient you should look for in your skin care product before buying it. This skin care ingredient works especially to kill bacteria.
Remember; bacteria are responsible for the tiny or mighty annoying pimples that pop on your beautiful faces.
The way benzoyl peroxide works is quite simple: when applied on the face, the chemical compound targets bacteria located both underneath and on the surface of the skin.
Once the bacteria are gone, your skin stands a chance to breathe without pimples.
4. Vitamin C
Of all the ingredients to look for in skin care products, vitamin C stands out as a multi-purpose skin care ingredient.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from signs of aging, hyperpigmentation, etc. Also, it is used to even out skin tone and lighten the skin.
Of course, vitamin C is commonly found in fruits and certain kinds of vegetables. It can also be extracted and added to skin care products to be directly applied to the skin.
5. Glycerin
Are you surprised to see Glycerin as one of the ingredients to look for in your skin care product? You won’t be so shocked if you knew the benefits of glycerin.
Our skin needs to be daily moisturized especially in dry weather. Glycerin does a perfect job of hydrating dry skin and improving the appearance of dull skin.
So, do you have dry skin? You can either chose skin care products that contain glycerin or buy the pure and undiluted moisturizing ingredient to apply on your skin.
Know your skin type
What is most important is; understand your skin and know the type of care to give to your skin.
For instance, if you have dry skin, buy skin care products that contain glycerin to help you moisturize your skin.
On the other hand, Nigerian women who are battling with acne should always look for retinol, salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredients in their skin care products.
If you are simply trying to lighten your skin, vitamin C should be your go-to active ingredient.
While looking for the best ingredients to have in your skincare products, stay away from toxic ingredients that can damage your skin!
I appreciate how well you have expressed your observations in this article. I agree with a lot of your material and think you are gifted.
